Unlucky weekend in Belgium ///

 11.10.2016

Very unlucky race week-end on the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit for David Fumanelli and Oregon Team, leaving the Belgian round with a DNF.
On Saturday morning, after twenty minutes of though qualifying session, David secured the fifth position on the grid for the PRO race, only one-tenth off from the third place of the former F1 driver Robert Kubica.

But the Endurance race scheduled in the afternoon had a different outcome. A crash at the start, caused by another driver, involved the car #4 with Mendez, Fumanelli’s car mate, behind the steering wheel. The huge impact against the wall was inevitable for the Colombian driver, who fortunately didn’t report any physical damage.

The considerable damage on the car forced the team to work hard all night to try repairing it and they fortunately made it just in time for the PRO race on Sunday.

But at the start, an electronic gearbox problem forced David to retire with a DNF that complicates the fight for the title in anticipation of the last race in Portugal, scheduled for the 22nd and 23rd of October.
Of course there’s a lot of disappointment for what has happened this weekend, but when you have such a bad luck, there is very little to complain...
We worked well in practice and I was confident I could hit a podium, but on the first lap the gearbox stopped working and I had to come in. The accident at the start on Saturday for sure did not help, but the important thing is that Andres was ok after that shunt.
I want to thank the team and all the mechanics that worked the whole night between Saturday and Sunday to repair the car, I only regret not being able to pay them back with a nice result. Now the standing is not on our side, but we will give it all to aim for the best possible result and still fight for the title.
