As if that were not enough, David has struggled all weekend with gearbox problems and despite numerous interventions from the team, they have not been able to solve the problem.
The qualifying, which took place on wet track, was so affected by this technical problem that David was not able to do better than a ninth place.
But thanks to a masterful recovery in PRO sprint race, it climbed up from ninth place on the grid to the third, grabbing an unexpected podium on an insidious wet track and having to struggle with an imperfect gearbox.
After a first lap full of overtaking, he had a beautiful duel with Schothorst, championship leader, won by the Italian driver who got the third place.
So a brilliant “grand finale”, but with a little of regret for the lost opportunity to fight for the title in the last two rounds due to technical problems.
David concludes the 2016 season in fourth place in the standings, just 10 points from third place, with four podiums and one pole position.
