The Renault Sport Trophy is back on track after the summer break on Paul Ricard circuit, 4th round of the French championship.
David, at his first experience on this difficult circuit, has played the role of “the man to beat” since Saturday morning, taking the first pole position of the season with a brilliant qualifying lap. The Italian was in fact the only driver to go under the wall of 2'02"00, three tenths quicker than Schothorst in second place.
In the race, due to an unlucky start, David lost the first position into the first corner, but he tried to immediately put pressure on the Dutch driver, his rival in the championship.
The race pace was very similar between the two drivers and that didn’t allow David to attack Schotorst. The Italian driver crossed the finished line then in second place, securing his third podium in a row.
With this result, David is now second in the overall standings with 71 points, - 20 from the leader. But with still 75 points to take in the last rounds, the fight for the title is fully open.
Next meeting on the 24th-25th of September, on the iconic Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.
